Gravity is like a big hug from the Earth. The Earth wants to keep everything close to it, so it gives everything a big squeeze and pulls it down.

Imagine you're playing with a ball on a trampoline. When you throw the ball up in the air, what happens? It comes back down, right? That's because the Earth is giving the ball a big hug and pulling it down. And that's gravity!
